“The most precious jewels you’ll ever have around your neck are the arms of your children”.
When it comes to our children there are so many things that we need to think about to make the lives of our children perfect, or as close to perfect as possible. As babies we need to have the correct formula, creams, etc. then when they start crawling and walking it is moving objects that might hurt them and sealing the electrical plugs in the walls. Before you know it is time to select the perfect nursery and so on.
Somehow, we sometimes forget about fitness and daily activities, this is an important key to help prevent major illnesses such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes later in their lives. Regular physical activities can boost your child’s self-esteem, sleep quality, stress, and depression. Inactive children are more likely to become inactive adults putting them at risk of developing life-threatening conditions.
There are many health benefits for children enjoying regular exercise, such as:
- Increasing concentration.
- Building stronger bones, muscles, and heart.
- Improving fitness.
- Improves self-esteem.
- Better posture and balance.
- Opportunity to socialise.
- Better night’s sleep.
For children who are not yet walking, activity should be from an early age as it will benefit a child’s development and promotes the development of motor skills, muscles, bones, social skills and cognitive.
For children that are not yet walking great ideas are:
- Water-based activities.
- Floor-based play, including rolling, reaching for their toys.
Ensure that there is a good balance of activity and rest.
Children that are walking by themselves should be active for at least a total of 3 hours a day which is spread throughout the day. Physical activities can be structured exercise or unstructured active play, as movement skills gained at this young age set the pace for movement skills such as coordination and balance when they are older.
Activities should be fun for children so that they enjoy it and not feel that it is a chore. Activities can be done as a family enjoying bike rides, swimming of going for a walk. From the age of 3 years children can be enrolled at First Touch FC, giving the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful game of football.
